Liza first remembers picking up a book to help her figure out what was “really” going on with people at a time in her life when it seemed of the utmost importance – when her high school boyfriend broke up with her. The book was John Gray’s Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Refusing to believe she had to be tossed around at whim by any little emotion life brought upon her, she started a journey of self-examination and exploration, reading books and engaging in conversations on what makes people tick and what are some basic human truths that run though all of us. It’s an exciting journey she is still on and feels is never fully complete.
Beginning when she was little, she was an actress. She was in many plays in elementary school and high school and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California in Theatre Arts. Although this degree may not seem directly related to coaching, at the core of creating a character is finding the subtext – what the characters really mean, though they don’t say it directly. Basically, finding out what made them tick.
After college she took various workshops and courses in self-examination and self-discovery. She was a participant in and graduate of the Landmark Forum, the Landmark Advanced Course and the Landmark Self-Expression and Leadership Course. She learned about true integrity and honesty, both with those around her and with herself. Although she always loved helping others, it was here that her listening and helping skills were honed.
In the Spring of 2006, she met her husband in Los Angeles while they were both performing at The Second City doing improv comdy. In the Spring of 2008 they were married. She participated in her own wedding journey and immediately wanted to share the knowledge she gained with other brides. Shortly after their wedding, Liza & Tom gathered up their things and ventured across the country in a little Penske truck to make Franklin, Tennessee their new home. This is where they reside with their dog, Sampson.
Along with pre-marital counselor, Marie McKinney-Oates of Nashville Marriage Stuio, Liza has created and is running a never-before-seen workshop dedicated to creating well-rounded brides and grooms called The Unabridged Bride.
Currently, she is in the process of completing the Core Essentials Program with Coach Inc., a life coaching school accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
